Broomhall and Broomhill: What These Two Areas Have To Offer Students

Back to all Blog Posts

Welcome to this latest instalment in our series which puts the spotlight on the various student accommodation areas in Sheffield - which we represent on our student properties search system.

This time, we’re looking at two areas. They share a closeness to the main student campuses (in fact some are contained within). There is some geographical overlap between the areas, but we’re splitting them up, to reflect the way they are referred to locally.

Without further ado, let’s delve into Broomhall and Broomhill!

Broomhall and Broomhill: An Overview

Broomhall is an area located snugly to the west of Sheffield city centre.

Broomhall is held together by the Whitham Road (A57) to the north, and the Ecclesall Road (A625) to the south. The accessibility to these two roads is in itself a fantastic asset - especially if you’re welcoming guests who are travelling by road or you’re looking for a get-away to the Peak District National Park. Top marks to Broomhall when it comes to road connectivity.

For students attending Sheffield Hallam University, the Collegiate Campus is located in Broomhall.

Broomhall provides bus connectivity to and from the city centre. Despite the lack of local train stations in Broomhall, you’re not far from Sheffield station

A Typical Broomhall Street Scene:

Broomhill forms an area north of Broomhall (there is some geographical overlap between the two), and is based around the A57.

Without wanting to get too technical, ‘Broomhill & Sharrow Vale’ is one of the electoral wards of Sheffield City Council, in which Broomhall is located. For this reason, it’s apt to include the Broomhill area as well as Broomhall.

The University of Sheffield’s ‘Western Campus’ is based around the A57 - making the area ideal for students studying at this institution. Glossop Road is another one of the central roads in the area; it’s home to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, a major teaching hospital.
