Why Sharrow is a Great Student Housing Area

Back to all Blog Posts

The Sharrow area contains several of our varied student accommodation properties and is a great choice for your stay at Uni with its facilities and relaxed proximity.

Like other top student areas in our blog on Best Student Accommodation Areas in Sheffield, Sharrow, of course, was not originally planned as a hub of student dwelling places, but it has become this for sensible reasons:

Near to The Main Universities

Being in Sharrow means you are not far from the key University sites of Hallam, University of Sheffield or the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with none being more than 25 minutes’ walk.

That said, the pleasant leafy nature of the area that is not the same ‘CBD Feel’ that you have in the built-up city centre. Our well-priced student accommodation in this pleasant area has the best of both worlds - space to relax yet good transport links.

Shops and Amenities

With a Tesco Express, Londis and Tesco Metro store within the area and a nearby Waitrose to the east and Marks & Spencer on Ecclesall Road you can grab your food and drink needs easily.

There is also post offices, a gym, a medical centre surgery, the Botanical Gardens and Endcliffe Park nearby as well as a good range of coffee shops, pubs, and restaurants – just about one of every kind.

Here are 5 that we picked out as classic examples:

Made by Jonty Café - website “Brunch-Lovers favourite”
Otto’s Moroccan Restaurant - website “with Private Function Room”
Porter Brook Deli Independent delicatessen- website “over 90 different cheeses”
Solo Gallery Craft Shop - GoogleMaps “Contemporary Art & Craft”

Student Housing Types in Sharrow

Sharrow was once a village known as Little Sheffield, developed in the 1800s and away from the town, with Sheffield Moor in between.  The Porter Brook River provided power for the industry and many houses were built.  The 1970s saw many parts of this area re-built.

This has resulted in a wide variety of property types across the area, many of which make good student accommodation. At Claypenny we have developed a wide choice of student properties in Sharrow over the years. There are houses and flats available to rent ranging in price from £69-£190 per week and also hotels and guest houses nearby if you have relatives visiting.

For example, this house on Penrhyn Road. It is a carefully refurbished 4-bedroom house, with modern kitchen and fully-furnished lounge.
